Various medicines are in short supply in pharmacies; drug shortages are beginning to cause serious concern

Different preparations are impossible to find on the market these days. Various specialties are lacking including some anticancer drugs that even hospitals cannot find. But of particular concern to authorities is the depleted stock of the most widely used combination vaccine that protects children simultaneously against six diseases, including diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio. Touched by drug shortages, however, are not only parents and younger patients.

The list of preparations depleted for weeks or months, updated Monday, covers some 20 drugs including l’ IPNOVEL, VALIUM, VIAGRA, NIMENRIX, CAVERJECT, REVATIO, TAVOR, ZIMOX, DALACIN, METHOTREXATE, LEVODOPA, CARBIDOPA, ENTACAPONE, TECNIGEN, HALCION, FELDENE, TESTIMENE, FLUDARA, VECLAM, RANIBEN ULCEX, GLITISOL, RANIDIL, PLANUM.

Drug shortages are beginning to cause serious concern, comments Giovanni D’Agata president of the “Sportello dei Diritti” even though the situation is critical throughout l’Europe. In some Hospitals, patients are forced to bring medicines from home (particularly a widely used hypertension drug and another for hepatitis B) because they do not appear in the hospital formulary. The consequences for sufferers that it really has become a big problem to ensure continuity of care.
