Abdominal bloating what it depends on
Abdominal bloating, what it depends on
The abdominal swelling consists of the accumulation of gas in the stomach or intestines and may be associated with even intense pain.
Some foods, carbonated beverages, the bad habit of eating too fast or lying down immediately having lunch or dinner, chewing gum, smoking, stress or anxiety can cause it.
However, it can also hide pathologies
However, it can also hide more serious illnesses or diseases such as appendicitis, gallstones, liver cirrhosis, cholecystitis, cystic fibrosis, gastroenteritis, intestinal obstruction, irritable bowel syndrome, typhoid, colorectal or ovarian cancer, duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer.
Or result from issues such as celiac disease or lactose intolerance.
Obviously, isolated episodes of abdominal bloating tend to resolve on their own and should not alarm; if they recur more often, especially after meals, it may be helpful to reduce the intake of foods and beverages that promote the accumulation of gas in the digestive system, such as beans, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and cauliflower, apples, pears and peaches, lettuce, onions, whole grains and carbonated soft drinks.
Small snacks that are too fatty and spicy are also to be avoided
Small snacks that are too fatty and spicy are also to be avoided; in some cases it might also be helpful to limit (or even avoid completely) the consumption of milk and its derivatives, which can lead to an excessive accumulation of air in the belly.
Other tips are to take a walk, even if only a quarter of an hour, consume foods such as apple, pineapple, grapes, aloe vera that promote digestion and have detoxifying action, activate intestinal transit and rebalance intestinal flora.
If, on the other hand, abdominal bloating persists even when consumption (or eliminated altogether) of these bloating-causing foods has been limited, and if there are other symptoms such as diarrhea, severe or persistent abdominal pain, blood in the stool, change in stool color, change in frequency of evacuations, unjustified weight loss, and chest pain, then it will be appropriate to consult the doctor.
